Music Lessons in Broad Daylight

People are sometimes surprised to find out that I am a full-time music instructor with over sixty students. Actually, if I started doing group lessons or could clone myself, I could easily have twice that many students. Indeed, there seems to be an infinite number of people of all ages and walks of life who want to learn how to play the piano or guitar.

This was recently brought home to me in a big way when I was deluged with so many phone calls that I couldn’t possibly call everybody back. I want to apologize to anyone whose phone call I haven’t returned. I do appreciate your interest in my music lessons, but, as they sometimes say in commercials on radio and TV: "the response has been tremendous!" In fact, it’s been downright overwhelming.

One big reason why I have so many people wanting my services is that they’ve been able to find out about me through my advertising in the Lake and Bay and South Shore Log. When I started my current music instruction business seven years ago, I tried many different ways to get more students. I can say very truthfully that nothing has come close to having an ad in the Log publications. Even before I started writing this column, I received many responses from even my little business card ad.

Music lessons in broad daylight?!! Yep, it does happen, though some may think of it as a strictly after-school-or-work activity. Well, though late afternoon and evening are definitely the most popular time for lessons, for a lot of people, such as the self-employed, shift workers, preschoolers, homeschoolers, homemakers, and, of course, retirees, the earlier part of the day works best. Being available throughout the day enables me to teach more of the multitudes who want to learn guitar or piano.

So, if you can do music lessons in broad daylight (between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM) please call me and leave a message. I probably won’t have any trouble fitting you in my schedule because that’s when I have the most time slots open.
